Matej Černigoj is a Doctor of Psychology. He completed his studies with a thesis on counterfactual thinking and, immediately afterwards, joined the department of psychology as an assistant at the chair of social psychology.
His doctorate, The structure and dynamics of social reality from the perspective of the relation between the individual and the social environment, took on the central question of social psychology — the relation between the individual and society. The work grew into the book Jaz in mi: raziskovanje temeljev socialne psihologije (IPSA, Ljubljana 2007).
After his doctorate he turned towards the more practical aspects of human sociality, which he approaches phenomenologically, in the first person. He developed the concept of self-knowledge as an alternative to existing forms of psychological work with people, and a vision of a science of being whose field of inquiry is the whole experience of human existence.
He has been exploring and practising meditative non-doing for more than two decades. At Perihoreza he leads Meditation — a weekly practice whose conceptual framework is his own.
